Weekly Update

Hi Everyone!

This week we have had the best weather! We also had some special events too! Read Across America Day was so much fun with the Kona Ice truck, Story Walk, and flashlight reading in the classroom. We were “Super Readers” and wore our masks too! We also welcomed a new classmate! Welcome to our class, Camila! Next week we will be celebrating exceptional children’s week. We recognize all learners and celebrate the teachers and staff that support them!

This is a reminder that Baggy books are due along with Homework every Friday. Homework gets extra S.T.A.R. tickets by “Taking Responsibility.” Reading logs that get filled out completely earn an extra reward, and students eat in the classroom. Unfortunately, some of our students miss out on these opportunities and would greatly appreciate any help achieving these goals at home.

A look at next week.

Weekly Update

Hi Everyone!

Brrr! The weather has turned cold again! We spent some rainy, cold days inside for recess this week. 😊 We got to go to the media center and have Makerspace time this week. We also met with Ms. Norris for our counselor lesson! This week we made a Time Capsule for 2-2-22 day! Your child has brought it home today. There is a little space inside if you want to add something. Keep this in a safe place. They can open it up in 10 years! They will be Seniors in high school when it is 3-3-33. How cool is that! The final collection for our Kennesaw Place is DUE by Wednesday, Feb. 9th. A huge thank you to everyone who has already participated. This week’s homework features again the Valentine box (everyone needs one) and our class list for Valentine distribution. We will not have a “party” on Valentine’s Day, but we will take time to pass out the valentine’s and read a few. I will post this on my blog, and that’s also where you can find the homework and phonic words of the week.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Academic focus next week:

Reading- Who is telling the story? How do you know?

Math- Balancing equations

Writing- Opinion

Phonics- Unit 22 /or/

Social Studies- Continents and Oceans

Note: I hope that the blue map has come in handy. The only way to learn about the continents and oceans is to practice. I recommend putting the map on your front door or refrigerator, and each time they pass, you ask them to point to a specific continent or ocean. The standard for first grade is to identify AND locate them. If you want to sing our song, here is the YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/Lf–PQNDn7g

Weekly Update

We had a great week! We earned our class reward- PJ day and had a library lesson with Ms. Finnegan. Next week we will have a counselor lesson on Monday. Wednesday is Groundhog day and 2’s day. Next week I will also send home our class list of names so that you can begin working on writing out your valentines for the class. I do recommend that the students write them out themselves. It’s great handwriting practice. On the homework, you will see that your child needs a valentine box so they can collect their valentines. I’ve listed some YouTube videos that show decorated boxes. The videos recommend a shoe box but an Amazon box works just as well. 😊Your child has to carry the box into school, so that should determine the size of your box.

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend. 😊Last week we recognized the 100th day of school. There are different dates throughout the county but our class recognized the 100th day on Friday. In first grade we celebrate the 120th day and will have a fun filled day exploring all things “120.” The 120th day will be the Friday before February break. That week will also include Valentine’s day. I will be sending home any classroom requests as the dates get closer. Thank you again to everyone who donated extra snacks to our classroom. It has helped out immensely.
