Weekly Update

Hi Everyone,

I’m finally done with planning and I am looking forward to some time off with my family. As a reflect on the week, we have been very busy. I appreciate everyone who was able to return their conference sheet. I look forward to seeing everyone during our conference week (Oct 14-Oct 18).

As I stated in a previous email, we do not have any homework besides reading, phonics, and sight (or) spelling words.

Here is a peek at what we have planned for when we get back:

Reading- Non-fiction vs Fiction

Writing- Narratives

Math-Subtraction, Related Facts and Word Problems

Science- Magnets

Phonics- Ending blends

Mark your calendars: Picture Day is Friday 10-4

Lastly, I wanted to take the time to double check that you got the text or email blast about our new school-wide policy that administration will be starting on 9/30 when we get back from break. The blast said the following:

“To ensure building safety and foster

independence in our children, we

will begin the Parent/Child Hug Stop

on 9/30. Parents are asked to say

goodbye each  morning at the main

entrance of the school.”

As a parent of three myself, I think it is important to know who is in the building with my children. I personally do not know every parent who is walking the halls in the building in the morning. I appreciate that the administration of our school cares about the security of our building and the personal independence skills of our students. I am proud to say that each one of our students in our class are working hard to problem solve and be independent thinkers. They can confidently traverse the halls and feel proud of their accomplishments.

If you have any questions please remember that I am always available by text, email or in person. If we need to schedule a conference before conference week, I am available most afternoons, afterschool or in the morning before school starts.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable break.

weekly update

We had a great but tiring week. We finished up our Cogat testing and anyone who was absent will be pulled next week to finish. Because of our shortened day due to testing, my friends who “spell” their sight words will have to wait until Monday to get their lists.

Everyone got a new homework for the week and phonic words. The homework will be uploaded to the blog and will be attached here. The Unit 4 Phonic words are on the blog. I have also uploaded the Reading Log to the blog. If you have sight words, your lists went home today.

Progress reports went home today too. Please review and sign 1 copy. (I promised your child a reward if they bring back a signed copy!) Keep the other copy for your records. Quarter 1 is a review quarter with only a few new standards. A lot of our students are doing very well. Please remember that not ALL of our Q1 standards were assessed by the time the progress reports were written. If you have specific questions, please email and we can discuss your child individually.

Here is a peek at next week:

Phonics- ending s blends

Reading- fiction vs non-fiction

Math-Addition strategies (it’s more than fingers…😊)

Writing- Narratives

Science- Weather

Grammar- inflectional endings (-s, -ing, -ed)

We are scheduled to have Core Curriculum with Ms. Chambers (counselor) on Wednesday.
