Weekly Update

Wow! We had such a full week! I’m exhausted! I hope you are looking forward to your day off on Monday as much as I am. It will be fun to spend the day with my own kids. I hope you enjoy the day with your children too. I have heard that many of you are going on trips, so please be safe. When you return, we will have 1 full day of instruction before we have 3 days of Cogat testing. I sent home today a reminder that the Cogat is NOT a test you can study for. It is a mental abilities test. The best thing you can do for your child is rest and getting them to school on time next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They are allowed to bring a game or toy (no electronics or games with violence) we will have down time after the test. Don’t forget to send in a snack each day. Some of our friends have been forgetting them, and snacks are especially important during testing. We will have a lighter academic week but we will still have standards to work on. Here’s a peek:

Math- Cogat- Fact Fluency

Reading- Reading Fluency

Phonics- S blends

Writing- integrated with Social Studies

Weekly Update

I hope this update finds everyone enjoying the weekend. Next week we have an early release schedule on Wednesday. This will affect our schedule that day. We will have Specials (10:05-10:35) and lunch (11:15-11:45) earlier, and will not have recess time. Dismissal is 12:30pm. I will be publishing our class directory soon, so be on the lookout for that. 😊 We had our first Friday where we checked homework, read our baggy books, sight words and took a Phonics test. I’m happy to report that almost everyone turned everything in and did well on our tests. In our room we have a lot of differentiation. So, different students are on different lists, or homework (or no homework). If you ever need an explanation of what your child is working on, please drop me or Ms. Dunn a note.

Weekly Update

Hi families!

I am worn out! The Fun Run was so much fun though! Thank you so much for supporting our school. It was great to see so many people out to cheer us on the obstacle course. We were hot and sweaty but were able to come inside afterwards and cooled off with some popsicles and lots of water!

We had some items due today that were missing. This is a friendly reminder that Homework is due every Friday. Starting today, some friends got sight words to practice too. (Harris, Jack, Addyson, Spring, Loryn, Spencer, Scarlett, Kaleb, Jacob, Maria, Noa, Nicole, & Jayden) If you did not get sight words this week don’t worry. We had some finish their lists and/or have lists sent home from Ms. Dunn or Ms. Madden. Also on the Homework is our phonic words of the week (Also tested on Friday). The phonic lists are listed on my blog. I will update the blog with the homework too. Baggy books just went home with our new friends and we expect them to come back to school next Friday. Some current friends forgot their books today. Let’s try to remember them for next Friday.

We will be doing a lot of testing next week. It is important that your child comes to school on time and rested. The tests are baseline computer tests for the Reading Inventory and Math Inventory. We will also visit the Library for the first time this year on Friday. Dr. King will visit and begin preparing us for the Cogat (Standardized Testing) in September.

The student in each grade with the most new pledges will get to pie the Boosterthon team tomorrow!

Every student’s goal is to connect with 10 sponsors. And with funrun.com’s smart sharing features, reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever. The easiest way to get pledges is to simply click the Facebook share button on your student’s pledge page. Plus, with a few clicks you can create a custom Student Star video to share on social media. You can also use the Easy Emailer to connect with friends and family. As you gather pledges, be sure to record each sponsor’s e-mail address so they have the opportunity to easily pay for your student’s pledge online via credit card.

Boosterthon Kick-off!

Our Kennesaw Obstacle Challenge kicked off today with an exciting Pep Rally, and we are thrilled about this year’s program! We’ve asked the fundraising experts at Booster to power our two-week program, making our fundraising simpler, more profitable, and more FUN. Our obstacle challenge includes EVERY student in a fun, fitness event that focuses on character while helping our school raise much-needed funds.

This year, our entire school is raising funds for school improvements, such as new student risers, teacher grants, etc. Our goal is to raise $16,000 and we need YOUR help!

Here’s how you can support Kennesaw:

  • Register your student on funrun.com by searching “Kennesaw.” Once you do, your student will receive a FREE GIFT just for being registered. Then, use funrun.com to log pledges for your child.
  • Reach out to sponsors. Every student’s goal is to connect with 10 sponsors, and with funrun.com’s smart sharing tools, reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever.
  • Ask your child about the MindSpark: Wild West Character Lesson of the Day! This year’s theme combines S.T.E.A.M. skills with character-building. In this thrilling Sci-Fi-Western theme, your students and the MindSpark kids must compete in six “Character Duels” to rescue Dr. Shock. Along the way, they’ll learn about Honesty, Gratitude, Generosity, Kindness, and Humility. Join along by watching the fun character videos with your child on funrun.com.
  • Come to the Obstacle Challenge on August 16th! All students are included in the event, regardless of financial participation. Remember, students will be completing 30-35 obstacle challenges, and we would love for you to come out and cheer on your student!

Thank you for supporting our school. We hope to see you next week at the Obstacle Challenge!
